UUCT BOARD OF TRUSTEES PRESIDENTS' MESSAGE; JULY 2024

 Happy New Year!

I know that sounds strange when it feels like 100 degrees outside, but, as many of you know, July 1 is the beginning of the "church year" for UUCT.  That means I will officially be staring as the new Board President, and that Monty Thornburg and Therese Musch Colby will be joining the Board along with our continuing members Ana Schuber, Bobby Freeman, Deb Crocker, and Mary Weekes.  I would like to thank Bobby for his tireless and dedicated service to the Congregation over the past year; he has tried to prepare me as best he can for the road ahead, but nobody can really fill his shoes!

July will be a different month for us, as Rev. Julie is taking a well-deserved vacation (yes, that means no email).  IF YOU NEED PASTORAL CARE or any of the kind of help she would normally provide, please contact a Board Member (for life-or-death emergencies, I do have her number).

For music lovers at UUCT, July will be your month!  On July 14th, we will be having a hymn sing, and we will be taking member requests (and they don't technically have to be "hymns"!)  Let Ken McGuire know if you have a special favorite, esp if it's not in the hymnal.    On July 20th, vocalist/flautist/percussionist Mary Weekes will be joining UUCT musician emeritus Mike Rives for an evening of music and socializing.  And on July 28th,  Ana Schuber will preach about why we love music so much.  Check out all the other July events on our calendar (if you didn't get one, ask Ana!)

As the church year begins, I have two potential summer school assignments for you.  First, if you're currently not active with one of our congregation Pillars---Worship, Social Justice, Member Care, and Buildings and Operations--please consider doing so, and reach out to the relevant person listed on the weekly bulletin (or just email me and I will point you in the right direction).  Alternatively, if you are already working within one of the Pillars, PLEASE SEND ME YOUR GOALS, FOCUSES, and/or HOPES for the coming year.  I have to give a "State of the Church" address on August 25, and I need you to give me ideas about things we might do, or continue doing, or do a better job doing, as we go forward.

Oh, wait:   I just thought of a third assignment:  tell a friend about UUCT, and/or invite them to church!

Wish the new(ish) Board good luck as we begin a new year of serving the Congregation.  We may be the facilitators, but Y'ALL ARE THE CONGREGATION!  There is no UUCT without each of you.
